Celina Lin bids adieu to PokerStars after a decade long association


Poker pro Celina Lin, a well-known name in the poker circuit, has ended her decade-long association with PokerStars. Lin who is a revered personality in the Asian poker scene, announced on her Twitter account that she’s bidding adieu to PokerStars. This news comes days after Chris Moneymaker announced his departure from the brand. Surprisingly, these two are not the only pros who have ended their long associations with PokerStars. Moneymaker ended his 17 year long partnership with the brand, and people in the industry took notice. 

The brand’s new marketing strategy as per news reports, is one of the primary reasons why so many poker pros have called it quits with PokerStars. Notably, players like Philipp Gruissem, Anatoly Filatov, Roberto Romanello, Ludovic Geilich, Renato Nomura, Richard Dubini and Josip Simunic, who fell under the ‘Sponsored Pros’ category also parted ways with the popular brand. The industry experts are taking notice and anticipating what PokerStars has in mind with respect to their revised marketing strategy, as many pros stepping away, is surely sending a bold signal to the players, and newbies alike.

The international team pros of PokerStars now have 10 names left after Lin’s exit. She came on board with PokerStar as an ambassador in April 2010. Lin who hails from Shanghai, China interestingly began her stint in poker when a friend persuaded her into playing at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. The former PokerStars pro’s journey kick-started in 2004 and then there was no looking back.

Furthermore, Lin grasped the ins and outs of the game and racked in a $10,000 bankroll online in a span of just three weeks. She won the Red Dragon Main Event at the Macau Poker Cup in 2012 for $110,077, making her the first woman to do so. This historic player did not waste any time as a newbie in becoming a pro and fittingly turned into a regular face at the top card rooms in Asia. brand
