In the US presidential elections that were held in November, Joe Biden was elected as the President. Biden is among the few politicians from the US who opposed the Trump administration’s reversal of the Wire Act in 2018.
The Wire Act of 1961 is a United States federal law that criminalizes all other forms of interstate gaming, including online poker.
The time when Donald Trump served as President, he sought to restrict online gambling by enforcing the Wire Act. In the past when Trump owned the Taj Mahal Casino, he spoke favorably about sports betting.
Here’s a video of Trump stating the same in 1993:
Biden served as the Vice President during President Barack Obama’s administration from 2009 to 2017. Biden had then stated that he would reverse the opinion on the Wire Act and this declaration made way for a new chapter in online gaming in the US. A few months ago, Biden had stated that he does not support any unnecessary restrictions to the gaming industry like the Trump administration once did.
During the Presidential election in 2020, Biden’s campaign officials mentioned that Biden believes how the state and federal authorities must cooperate to ensure that gambling is fair, safe, and corruption-free. Currently, sports betting application ‘BetMGM’ can be used in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Indiana, Nevada, New Jersey, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Take a look at the sports betting tracker:
President Biden’s win in the election could bring about many changes in the implementation of the Wire Act as there seems to be a lot of optimism shown by the Democrats to reverse the actions of Trump’s Department of Justice.
