Ben Heath wins Event #5 and maiden WSOP bracelet

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2019 is on in full swing at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and while The BIG 50 is the major attraction at the moment, other events are also quietly taking place, with the fourth gold bracelet of the year recently being given away.

Event #5: 50th Annual High Roller – $50,000 NLHE was clearly one only for the best poker players in the business, with such a staggering buy-in. However, such buy-ins often bring even bigger prizes if you play your cards right and that’s what UK’s Ben Heath did in this 4-day event, shipping the title and bagging the massive first-place prize of $1,484,085 (~INR 10.28 Crore).

The Englishman has been a regular at WSOP tournaments in the last few years but had failed to win a title prior to this. However, when he did win, he chose to win big, adding a massive amount to his existing tally of $3.1 million in live poker cashes. 110 entries were registered but only 12 of them were paid with a min-cash of $75,789, with a number of world-famous pros also in the mix.

From the final 6 players who returned on Day 4, Heath was the only player who hadn’t won a bracelet till date, but that changed and how?! Talking about the victory, he said, “It feels a lot better than I thought it would. When I was younger, I was shy and didn’t really want to win the bracelet. I would have rather just taken second place. But now that it has happened, it feels great!”

Final Table results:

  1. Ben Heath – $1,484,085
  2. Andrew Lichtenberger – $917,232
  3. Sam Soverel – $640,924
  4. Dmitry Yurasov – $458,138
  5. Nick Petrangelo – $335,181
  6. Chance Kornuth – $251,128
  7. Elio Fox – $192,794
  8. Cary Katz – $151,755
  9. David Einhorn – $122,551
