Basics Of Bounty Tournaments

This is that time of the year when poker players are actively heading to live casinos. All kinds of tournaments will start taking place. One tournament that each of you must know about is the poker bounty tournaments.

What are Bounty tournaments?

A bounty is a type of feature in poker tournaments that rewards the player who eliminates other players and gets a point for it. The reward is in the form of cash prizes, or tournament chips. Bounty tournaments are mostly implemented in smaller tournaments, charitable tournaments, etc, and are very similar to freezeout tournaments. Bounty games are extremely entertaining and attract several recreational players. More than the game, bounty tournaments are all about strategies. Bets keep coming in the early stages of the bounty tournaments.

Bounty tournaments are of two types, namely, progressive and knockout bounty tournaments.

  • In progressive tournaments, half of each buy-in is allocated for the prize pool while the other half goes towards the player bounties.
  • The other bounty variant is the fixed bounty tournament. This type of tournament has only bounties on certain players. These special players have normally sponsored ones either from the poker platform or a casino.

ADVANTAGES

One of the biggest advantages is that players have the chance to make money quickly as they do not have to wait for the entire tournament to get over. Bounty tournaments also allow players to engage in an unusual manner by increasing the buy-in limits. This is possible in such tournaments because there is less variance as occasional pay-outs keep occurring. Players usually consider knocking down opponents (bounties on their head) as a matter of pride. One such example was Siddharth Karia. He shipped the Head Hunter bounty tournament during the Final Table Series (FTS) by India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) and had ten bounties on his head.
