Auto Driver Wins 25 Crore In Kerala Lottery!

The winner of the highly awaited Onam Bumper sticker lucky draw was announced by Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal on Sunday, 18th September. The life-changing lottery was won by a young auto rickshaw driver in Kerala named Anoop. The 30-year-old was all smiles after he hit the ₹25 Crore bumper prize.  

Held in Kerala’s capital of Thiruvananthapuram, the lucky draw attracted a lot of attention. Anoop’s ticket number TJ-750605 was declared the winner, and he won the huge jackpot. Once the results were announced, the search for the winner soon commenced. Eventually, it was discovered that the 30-year-old had purchased the winning ticket from an agency in Pazhavangadi in Thiruvananthapuram.

The win shocked Anoop as he had purchased the ticket in the last moment on Saturday evening. This was less than 24 hours before the record-breaking Onam lottery results were declared. While the media was swarming the winner to get his story, Anoop did not reveal how he would use the money.

After winning the lottery, Anoop said, “At the moment, I don’t know what to say or what to do with the money. I’m just happy. Will think about what to do with it later on.”

After tax deductions, Anoop will now walk away with ₹15.75 Crore.

Once the winner was declared, the second-place prize went to a ticket with the number of TG-270912. The second prize was worth ₹5 Crore. It was then revealed that Meenakshi Lottery Agency in Kottayam was in charge of selling the lottery ticket. According to news reports, the agent selling the prize-winning lottery ticket will get ₹2.5 Crore as commission from the lottery department.

This year, a surge in lottery tickets was recorded by the Kerala State Lottery Department. The amount was ₹54 lakh in 2021. The prize pool of ₹25 Crore in 2022 was recorded despite an uptick in ticket prices. The prize money is the highest amount ever offered by the state’s lottery department, which was more than double the previous year’s prize money of ₹12 Crore.
