APT Vietnam Kickoff ME: 3 Indians progress to Day 3


The Eastern zone of the world is undergoing some of the prestigious tournament series. With India Poker Championship (IPC) in Goa attracting the best-known crowd, one cannot overlook the thrilling and prestigious Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam Kickoff 2020 event currently running its 12-day long marathon. The much-awaited VND 8 billion GTD Main Event is underway at the Pro Poker Club and the start of the year in the favourite holiday destination, Ho Chi Minh has been incredible!

It’s about yesterday that enrolled another 37 hopefuls looking forward towards grabbing a seat on Day 3 of the Main Event. With another set of participants, the count has reached 365 players now. However, Day 2 initiated with 140 players, each one of whom paid VND 20,00,000 buy-in. The three starting flights gave way to the overall chip leader Sim Qi Ren having accumulated a towering stack of 213,300 chips on Day 1C.

The grinding session whittled the field further down to 50 players. Displaying a prize pool of VND 7,760,000 (~INR 2.37 Crore) and the top 37 places are assured minimum cash of VND 41,950. It was Frenchman Francis Garson (picture below) who drove past the field accumulating an incredible stack of 430,000. Racking up the second largest stack was another Frenchman Antoine Follet with 423,000 chips and Rayhaan Adam followed next with 419,000, rounding up the top three.

The star-studded Main Event also observed Indian representatives Sumit Sapra bagging 256,500 chips, Dhaval Mudgal with 87,500 and Meherzad Munsaf with 82,000 chips progressing to Day 3. Other notable contenders include the 2019 APT Vietnam Deepstack Turbo winner David Erquiaga, the 2020 Red Dragon Deepstack winner Hwang Sang Yeon and so on.

Day 2 top 10 chip counts

  1. Francis Garson – 430,000
  2. Antoine Follet – 423,000
  3. Rayhaan Adam – 419,000
  4. Qian Xubo – 409,500
  5. Tuan Pro – 400,000
  6. Jet Zhang Liang – 376,000
  7. Lin Chen-Kun – 309,000
  8. Zhang Lei – 280,000
  9. Prince Shek – 275,000
  10. Siow Kim Foh – 260,500
