APT Taiwan: Zong Chi He wins the Main Event

The 2019 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taiwan’s Main Event newest champion has been crowned! Taiwan’s Zong Chi He rose above the final 8 yesterday defeating Korea’s Jinho Hong in heads-up. Zong was awarded the APT Main Event Trophy, APT Championship Ring, and an ambitious TWD 1.9 million. The entire Main Event drew 285 players with only top 29 players earning at the CPT Club.

The final day resumed with 8 survivors leading to the showdown of the most awaited event. Ho Bao Qiang, the chip leader from Day 3, entered with 7,125,000 chips. As the event progressed, the short-stacked, Chin Yun Wu (5th), Roman Shcherbakov (6h), Shao Hung Lee (7th) and Wilson Lim (8th) departed from the table.

For Qiang the battle was brutal sending him to 4th position into the fourth hour. Hong (Ks 7s) playing against Qiang (Jd 10s), on a turn board 7c 8c As 9s. The latter called hoping for a straight while the former confidently checked-raised and put his entire stack on the table. However, the river 4s made no difference for Qiang, and Hong ended the hand with a flush.

Eventually, Chi He defeated his fellow countrymate Wei-En Shih at 3rd place and the heads-up reached within ten minutes followed by Qiang’s elimination. Leading to the final duel, Hong had 4.7 million chips against his opponent Zong who held 2.4 million chips. After a few fierce hours, Zong took the chip lead climbing to 5.5 million in stacks.

In the final hand of the tournament, Hong held Ks 4s and Zong attacked with 5h 5s when the board ran out 8h As 4c 10h 2d. And there it was, the ultimate winner, Zong lifting his hard-earned prestigious trophy by sending his opponent to the rail in 2nd place. The winner now takes the lead in the APT Player of the Series race.

With total live earnings of $97k prior to this victory, Chi He was last recorded to win the 2019 Taiwan Million Tournament PLO. He earned his previous career-best live cash of $39,079 for winning HKPPA Premier League Main Event and this win is now his best!
