APT Finale Taiwan: Peter Chien leads Day 1C of Main Event


It feels like only yesterday when Akshay Nasa took down the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam Main Event. The company is back with another power-packed series in Taipei, Taiwan at the Chinese Texas Holdem Poker Association (CPT Club) for a 12-day long series called APT Finale Taiwan, marking the end of the 2019 season!

3 days into the series, the Main Event TWD 6 million GTD kicked off on 28 November. Day 1A saw 83 players appearing on the tables for a buy-in of TWD 31,000 each. The field whittled down to 49 players advancing to Day 2. Amassing the largest stack was United States’ Yuan Shyang Ting with 155,200 chips followed by native contender Ho Chung Yi bagging 104,800, the only two to reach the 6-digit mark in chips.

At 1 pm local time, Day 1B of the Main Event kicked-off the next day attracting players from all walks of life. 70 enthusiasts turned up on the second starting flight. After 9 rounds of play, Sweden’s Thomas Lind was leading 30 survivors on to Day 2 after bagging 135,000 chips. Lind sits at #2 in Malta’s All-Time money and is followed here by Japan’s Takao Shimizu accumulating 122,000 chips.

The overall chip leader, Canada’s Peter Chien (picture below) rose above all competitors with a stack of 162,300 on Day 1C of the Main Event. The third starting flight saw the largest field of 142 entries but after 9 levels, the field reduced to less than half, and only 63 lived to progress onto Day 2.

Combining the three flights, a total number of 142 hopefuls will be taking their seats on Day 2 including 2019 APT Vietnam Main Event champion Tetsuya Tsuchikawa with 65,000 chips, 2019 APT Taiwan Main Event champion Chow Cliff with 42,200 chips, 2018 APT Finale Manila winner Iori Yogo with 13,600 chips, Soo Jo Kim with 11,500 chips, and others.

  3. Ben Lai – 145,300
  4. Thomas Lind – 135,000
  5. Max Benjamin Menzel – 131,500
  6. Co Chung Chuen – 130,000
  7. Lok Gino – 124,000
  8. Takao Shimizu – 122,000
  9. Hsu Ming Kai – 121,400
  10. Jeff Davis – 119,500

All starting day survivors will merge for Day 2 which is scheduled to take place on Monday, 2 December at 1 pm local time to battle it out and grab the APT champion trophy, APT Championship Ring, and an ambitious first-place cash prize!
