APT Announces Revamped Schedule for 2018

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) has announced a preliminary schedule for its 2018 season, including a total of 7 stops in the Asian region, and a few more stops to be added soon. The tour will kick off in Vietnam, with the event there being hosted for 10 days between 19th and 28th January 2018.

This is the first time the Asian Poker Tour is hosting its opening event in a region outside the Philippines, and is the second APT visit to Vietnam since 2015. The Vietnam event will be hosted in the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh. Apart from Vietnam, stops have also been announced in Macau, Philippines and South Korea.

Macau will host two events. First, there will be a stop at the Macau Billionaire Poker, Babylon Casino from 25th April to 6th May. Then, players will return to Macau for the APT Finale, to be hosted there for the second consecutive year, between 28th November and 7th December 2018. This year’s APT Finale at the Billionaire Poker room saw India’s Varun Gupta clinching the APT Finale Main Event title for HK$ 300,400!

Philippines and South Korea will also host two events each. While the Korea section of the tour will be held in Seoul and Incheon, the Philippines segments will both be held at the Resorts World Casino, Manila.

KEY CHANGES

APT has also announced a few changes for its 2018 tournament schedule. First, there will no longer be an APT Player of the Year, being replaced by a Player of the Series (POS) program. As per this program, the top player at each stop will be awarded the POS title, including $500 in cash, and a 5 night sponsored stay at the next APT stop.

Another key change is the inclusion of guaranteed prize pools at the Macau & Philippines events, and a revised pay-out system, which will pay one place among every six entries. With the new ‘1 for every 6’ pay-out system, it becomes easier for players to know the number of places that will be paid out in every event.
