Anurag Kumar wins Spartan Mega Freeze

Mondays are generally not looked upon as the most favourable day of the week by most people. But for poker players, the first day of the working week is about coming down from the jampacked sessions of the Sunday grind. The Freezeout format is one of the most popular formats especially with noobs and/or purists. Having just one shot at making the money keeps players in line and so you tend to see lesser amounts of crazy at the virtual felts because a single mistake could mean your exit. Several hours of effort go down the drain if one is not careful in the freezeout format which does not allow rebuys or re-entries.

The man who kept his cool right through the almost 5 hour long tourney was Anurag Kumar from Mumbai. Kumar who plays as ‘godspeed’ claimed the Mega Freeze title at The Spartan Poker last night outlasting a field of 107 entries to win INR 1,36,693. Apart from Mega Freeze, Kumar has had quite a few scores at Spartan having won tournaments from The Spartan Poker’s daily schedule including Last Chance, Devil’s Pit, 40L GTD PLO and many more. Besides these titles, he has a number of cashes in other daily tournaments such as Mega Stack (which is also a featured tournament on the Hot Leaderboard Challenge), Afternoon Kick-Off, Detonator, Centurion and player favourite Sunday SuperStack.

Featuring a buy-in of INR 5,500 and a guaranteed prizepool of INR 5 Lakhs, the Mega Freeze its guarantee being surpassed to reach INR 535,000. The prizepool was distributed to top 15 places with a min-cash of INR 9,630. The winner was declared in Level #33 with blinds at 4,500-9,000-1,125. ‘godspeed’ had Ad 3h whilst his opponent‘krdurr1’ held Jh 6h. Having lost a majority of his stack a few hands earlier, krdurr1 had a stack of approximately 30,000 versus godspeed’s monster 10 lakh stack. Both heads-up opponents went pre-flop all-in to see the board of 8c 8d 2s 2c 9h. The board gave two pairs, Eights and Twos with Ace kicker to ‘godspeed’ and also the first place prize. ‘krdurr1’ was eliminated at second place for INR 94,160.
