We’re always talking about Indian players doing well in international poker venues and here’s another article reporting the same. In October 2018, Dhaval Mudgal made India proud by winning the WPT Vietnam Main Event for a whopping $104k cash prize. Now, Abhinav Iyer is sitting pretty with the chip lead at the APT Kickoff Vietnam 2019 Main Event.
Vietnam seems to be a happy hunting ground for Indian players and Iyer has given himself the chance to bring back a trophy to India. After a massive field of 576 entries registered, a total of 6 Indians made it to Day 3, but unfortunately, they all busted during the day.
Abhinav Iyer was leading the Indian contingent after Day 2, 17th in the overall chip lead, but he powered himself to a much better position by the end of Day 3, ending as the overall chip leader. He now sits at the top with a monster stack of 4,825,000 chips, which is more than double the next best – China’s Mai Te who has 2,105,000 in chips.
58 players were to be paid out in the tournament and India’s Meherzad Munsaf ended as the first to be paid, taking away VND 38 million (~INR 1.16 Lakh) in prize money. The rest also busted during the day, as play narrowed down to the official Final Table of 8 survivors.
Play will resume on Day 4 in a while from now, with each player being guaranteed a minimum cash prize of VND 283 million. Iyer however, will be aiming for much higher than that. From the VND 11,174,400,000 prize pool, VND 2.26 billion (~INR 69.52 Lakh) has been reserved for the eventual winner and Iyer will want nothing less than that.

Iyer was also one of three players in the Main Event to win a APT Tokyo Japan Main Event package from tournament sponsor Dafabet. For timely updates on the APT Kickoff Vietnam Main Event, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com.
