Abhijeet Shetty is first winner of Oct 2019 Baazi Poker Tour!

Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) made a comeback to the live tournament scene a couple of days back, kick starting the series in Casino Pride 2 with the INR 15k Kick-Off Event. The tournament attracted a healthy playing field of 257 entries and the overnight chip lead went to Avadh Shah, who led the final 13 players to Day 2 which was played out today.

We were to play down to a winner and play went on rather slowly at the start of the day. Ranjit Negi, Shawn Jose, Prithviraj Ganganna and Yohan Patel were the first four players to be eliminated on Day 2, with Abhijeet Shetty going into the Final Table with the chip lead. By then, Shah had dropped to second place in chips.

The first three eliminations on the final table were Gangadhar Raj, Mohammad Azhar and Anant Purohit, and after that, it was quite a while before someone busted again. The grind continued and we were well into the night when a winner was eventually declared, with the 100k High Roller also taking place simultaneously.

That winner turned out to be Shetty itself, who did very well given the kind of competition he had to face. He rode the chip advantage all the way to the end, facing Saumil Krishnani in heads-up. Though Krishnani held the chip lead at the start of the heads-up session, Shetty went on to win it, bagging his largest live cash of INR 8.53 Lakh!

Shetty had a couple of DPT cashes in the past but this has to be among his most memorable days in live poker, being crowned the first champion of the BPT comeback series. When asked what he intends to do with the prize money, Shetty said to the reporting team, “Party!”

Final Table Results:

  1. Abhijeet Shetty – INR 8,52,700
  2. Saumil Krishnani – INR 5,98,300
  3. Manas Kalita – INR 3,84,800
  4. Avadh Shah – INR 2,84,800
  5. Sahil Chuttani – INR 2,13,800
  6. Charush Bhatia – INR 1,71,000
  7. Anant Purohit – INR 1,42,000
  8. Mohammad Azhar – INR 1,13,800
  9. Gangadhar Raj – INR 85,200
