2022 WSOP: Woman Dealer Clinches First Bracelet In Event #1

The 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) kicked-off on 31st May 2022 with Event #1: $500 Casino Employee Event No-Limit Hold’em. The tournament concluded when the first gold bracelet of the season was clinched by Katie Kopp! Along with a prestigious gold bracelet, she also took home the top prize worth $65,168.

Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Kopp is a long-time dealer and made her way to victory after navigating a field of 832 players. This is Kopp’s first WSOP bracelet which she claimed at the Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas Casino. Short stacked for most of the final table (FT), Kopp was railed by her mother Patty who chanted ‘Can’t stop Kopp’ as she played on the FT. Kopp eliminated the final three opponents and secured the win.

“The feeling is so surreal being here with my mom. We travel and deal together. My whole family plays poker. My grandpa taught us. My brother and sister both have rings and even my nine and 10-year-olds know how to play,” said Kopp on her victory.

In the 2018 WSOP, Kopp finished third in this very event. She was also the first person to get eliminated from the tournament, however, she fired another bullet, and the rest is history. “Last time I was a short stack ninja, and I did the same thing last time. I want to buy a house, and this will really help me get there,” said Kopp.

“My mom has been on her feet all day. She’s railed me, standing on her feet the whole time. My mom loves poker. This is so exciting for her. I mean me and my mom, my mom is my best friend,” added Kopp.

There were only 82 survivors who moved onto Day 2 of the tournament with Shaun Colquhoun leading the pack. Nine players made it to the final table with Gonzalo Gonzalez leading the lot with 3,100,000 chips.
