2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualification, Take a Look At The Countries That Have Qualified For The Tournament So Far


2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualification: Five countries, including Indonesia and debutant Iran, have qualified for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup football tournament to be held in India in January-February next year.

Indonesia topped Group C of the qualification tournament in Dushanbe, Tajikistan for the fifth time on Monday, while Iran topped Group G and qualified for the first time in the tournament. 

Former champions Thailand, South Korea and the Philippines also qualified for the top 12-team continental women’s competition, which is being held in India for the second time since 1979.

The tournament will also be the final stage of Asian qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand. The tournament will be held in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune from January 20 to February 6.

2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualification

South Korea, who topped Group E, will take part in this tournament for the 13th time. The team finished third in 2003 with its best performance. The Philippines made it to the tournament for the 10th time, finishing at the top of Group F.

The 1983 champions Thailand qualified for the tournament for the 17th time, finishing on top of Group H. Three other teams will be the winners of Group A, B and D. India has got automatic qualification being the host. India will take part in this tournament for the ninth time.

Japan, Australia and China have already qualified for the tournament in 2018 as winners, runners-up and third-place teams respectively. The tournament was earlier to be held in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Navi Mumbai but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the venues were changed. Ahmedabad and Bhubaneshwar were dropped from the host’s list and replaced by Mumbai and Pune so that the teams have to travel less.
