2021 WSOP: Koray Aldemir Wins The Main Event Title For $80,00,000

The 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has finally received its Main Event champion in Koray Aldemir. The 31-year-old topped the field of 6,550 players to win the coveted Main Event title. The German player clinched the WSOP gold bracelet and $8 million in prize money.

Aldemir defeated George Holmes to win the title. The ME champion became the fourth all-time biggest live tournament winner in Germany with this victory. He also joins the prestigious list of WSOP Main Event winners, including Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar and Damian Salas, from whom Aldemir took the reins and will continue to hold the title until July 2022.

“It’s the one tournament family and friends know of, basically. It does mean a lot to me to win it,” Aldemir said after shipping the ME.

It was during the 223rd hand when Holmes ({k-Clubs}{q-Spades}) raised to 6,000,000 and Aldemir called. The flop opened to {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} , and Aldemir( {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}) checked. Holmes decided to bet another 6,000,000 and Aldemir check-raised 19,000,000. The turn opened to {k-Spades}  and Aldemir bet 36,500,000 after some thought. Holmes called after a minute of thought. The pot now stood at 100,000,000. {9-Clubs}  opened on the river and Aldemir checked, Holmes decided to move all-in with a whopping 133,000,000.

All eyes were on the showdown and Holmes showed {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} a king pair. Aldemir had his winning moment when he flipped {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a two-pair. Holms fell just short, and the  Main Event title slipped away. Holmes cashed $4.3 million.
