It was a record breaking day of action at the ongoing Asia Pacific Poker Tour currently taking place in Manila, Philippines. A massive 604 entries (479 unique) participated in Day 1A, the first starting flight of this APPT Main Event which carries a buy-in of Php 30,000 (~INR 39,000). This APPT Main Event carried a guarantee of Php 20 million (~INR 25 Lakhs)
In 2017, this very same Main Event attracted a total of of 594 entries making it a record even then. This year that record has been obliterated on the day of the first starting flight itself. Last year’s Main Event prizepool was a shade over Php 28.8 million while this time around, the first day’s buy-ins have taken the prizepool of over Php 29 Million. This should only go higher by the end of the remaining starting flights. Traditionally the final flight usually has the biggest number of participants so it’s not out of bounds to say that this prizepool could very possibly get to Php 50 Million (~INR 6.4 Crores)
By the end of day’s play only 167 survivors remained and it was China’s Yuan Chao Li who came out on top of the chip counts with an impressive stack of 430,000 chips. Some of the big stacks to end Day 1A included Mingyang Liu (366,400), Boon Seng Ang (315,700), Jun Obara (310,700), and Ming Huang (301,800) who made up the top five chip counts in opening day action.
And while those names did well, there were others who did not such as PokerStars pros Randy Lew and Celina Lin, Alan Lau, James Mitchell and Philippines’s first WSOP bracelet winner Mike Takayama.
And speaking of first WSOP bracelets, India’s first winner Aditya Sushant had a grind of a day at the felts. He bled out chips and despite clawing himself back a few times, he eventually lost with Ax Qx to his opponent’s Ax Kx. However its only the first flight of this Main Event so we fully expect Sushant to fire additional bullets given the pretty huge prizepool this will eventually be. Overall though, it was a decent day for the Indian contingent as a dozen players made it through with Amanpreet Singh leading the pack with just under 2 Lakhs in chips. Here’s the full list of Indian surviviors from Day 1A at APPT Manila:-
Amanpreet Singh – 1,98,700
Kavin Shah – 1,46,400
Kunal Patni – 1,06,900
Varun Gupta – 1,06,800
Sriharsha Doddapaneni – 1,05,000
Siddarth Singhvi – 99,400
Chiraag Patel – 98,100
Jaydeep Dawer – 65,700
Abhinav Iyer – 63,300
Sahil Chuttani – 63,000
Anup Palod – 53,700
Zarvan Tumboli – 35,000
Day 1B is currently underway and we expect there will be plenty more Indian names which will get added to the above list as both starting flights combines into Day 2 on Saturday. The big reason for this is that players can play both starting flights and if they survivve both days, then their bigger stack (from the two flights) will be carried forward and the other will be surrendered.
That Php 50 million prizepool does not look that far away given the above so head on back to GutshotMagazine.com tomorrow to find out if that is indeed so!
