3 Ways to Tilt Someone

Posted On 29 Nov, 2017 0

The benefits of putting someone on tilt are significant and obvious. I will discuss some of the ways to actually achieve it, but also how to leverage the outcome to make money.

The first thing you need to do to tilt someone to to have them notice you. Tilting is an emotional response. In order to tilt someone you must have them start taking what you are doing personally. Here are 3 ways that help unhinge players emotionally and have them shift their focus from the game at hand, to the 1 on 1 game with you.

Steal their Blind every time

When it is folded around to you in late position and you have one of your targets in the blinds you should open 100% of hands. Your target needs to be passive, weak and prone to tilt for this to work best. Your targets nature will be to fold and fold and fold waiting for a big hand that he can 3bet you with.

The fact is that those dont come around too often and that eventually they will get sick of folding to you. What you need to know about these player types is that the first time they 3bet you they have a hand. Since you have stolen a few sets of blinds in previous rounds you can fold to that first 3 bet and still make money.

What happens next is where it becomes interesting. As you keep up the pressure and keep raising, the target will eventually get more fed up and realise that he doesnt need a massive hand to fight back. He will then, start 3 getting you with some bluffs. This is great for you because you you can start playing big 3bet pots in position vs someone who has a weakish range and is agitated by your action.

You should start calling lots of his 3bets and playing pots against him in position. The fact they are weak and your are in position will result in you winning a lot more of those pots and that will agitate him even further. As they progresses his chips will start spewing out all over the table and you can pick up them up with little to no risk.

This takes time and patience. It takes discipline in how you play post flop It takes you understanding that your aim is to chip away at the target piece by piece until their whole mental state unravels.

Show them a HUGE bluff

Humans are proud creatures. We all have an ego. We don’t like to be ridiculed in public. We want people to think we are tough and smart. Finding a target who has little disciplined and prone to tilt, and then showing them a HUGE bluff is one of the quickest ways to put someone on tilt. You then proceed to involve the rest of the table and instigate on going talk about the hand.

This player will take it personally. He will feel weak and will feel like he has to go after you in order elevate their own standing at the table. This feeling will stew inside them and their focus will shift to the mission of revenge as opposed to playing good solid poker.

The best part about is that you you did this without spending any money. It can be argued that giving good players at the table information about how you played that hand is actually paying a price, and that is certainly true. That said though, as long as you recalibrate your actions in pots vs specific individuals based on the information you just gave away, you don’t dose anything.

3Bet their button steal from the SB every time

This strategy works great against weakish players who understand that stealing blinds in valuable, and try to do so often, while playing poorly post flop. You do not want to be playing bloated pots OOP against a tight aggressive player who is any good.

The target will view your first few 3bets as a sign of strength and you will win several nice sized uncontested pots preflop before the action gets going.  Like the feeling players get when the table knows they got bluffed, they feel the same resentment when the tables see's them constantly folding to you. This will have conversations with themselves in between hands, convincing themselves that you are after tham and they you always have nothing.

At some point the target will get fed up with your antics and start calling 3bets in position. You are ok with this because we can out gun them post flop, which will only further upset them. Now you are in great shape to start taking the target apart piece by piece. You need to be happy to lose a few small pots, with the idea being than when lots of money goes in, you have the nuts.

Some of the tools you can use to confuse them are:

  • Overbet cbet the flop
  • Fire multiple barrels on boards where it is unlikely they can hold the nuts.
  • Mix in a flop or turn Check raise when the situation dictates.

You basically want the target to feel like they are stuck in the middle of a tornado when they try to play back to you. The more you attack them, the worse they will play and the easier it will be to win all the money.
