Shantam Agarwal wins December 2.o.k on Spartan
Shantam ‘SnapJam’ Agarwal emerged victorious in the Two of a Kind (2.o.k) on TheSpartanPoker for INR 12,07,500. As the title says it’s Two of a Kind and Agarwal shipped the tournament along with Delhi based Sanjay ‘Apollo1’ Taneja securing 1st and 2nd place for INR 12,07,500. We also spoke with Tameka in our earlier roundup which you can read HERE.
Coming back to Agarwal, who is pursuing BBA in London, he was born and brought up in Surat where his family is based. His father setup the family business which is related to textiles and this business background surely played its part in giving Agarwal a good head for numbers in poker. His first interaction with poker was 3 years back on everyone’s invariably first platform Facebook Zynga. Later, his mentor Abhishek Jalan helped him in this poker journey where he backed him in a home games with INR 5K buy-in game where he ended up winning INR 25K.
Speaking about the 2.o.K journey, Agarwal said, “My journey through the event was amazing. I never play any major games alone; I always played important games under my brother's (Jalan) guidance. Luckily this time he was here with his team India in London. I can recall all spots discussed with my brother and his teammates. That really helped me to get through it. There was one turning point which I can recall in the tournament for me was when I won a 3 way all in when 17 people were left. This got me to chip lead.”
There have been positive reactions from friends and family, “My friends were quite surprised and happy to hear it and expecting a big party from me. But my parents were shocked hearing this, they never knew online poker was so big.”
Adding further to his plans, “Well my plans are to play more events like this. I have my brother to guide me and soon I will be playing live games with him.”
The young man is not allowing the headiness of this big victory go to his head, “Well, this is my biggest win ever so I’m gonna spend it on my mentor my brother as he is the reason behind all my winnings so far. Secondly, I would spend it with my parents as it is my first big earning and lastly I would save some amount to play big in future.”
