Aditya Agarwal 2nd in APPT Macau Main Event; Chen Wins HR
The Asia-Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) was brought back by PokerStars at the end of last year, and a lot of Indians were a part of the action at the 2018 APPT Macau, which kicked off on 14th March and was concluded on 25th. We reported the news of Ho Lun Pan winning the opening event, female pro Kristen Bicknell winning the high roller, her boyfriend Alex Foxen winning the super high roller and are now reporting the APPT Macau Main Event, and the second high roller event.
Aditya 'Intervention' Agarwal is said to be one of the best Indian poker players ever, breaking records in both live as well as online poker. Agarwal is the only Indian to become a Team PokerStars Pro and he has outdone himself yet again, finishing second in the APPT Macau Main Event, and recording his highest ever live cash.
In the Main Event, Aditya Agarwal from India had a brilliant run, second in the chip lead going into the final day of the event. The likes of Sumit Sapra (32nd) and Sahil Chuttani (15th) also did well but Agarwal had his eyes on the trophy. After hours and days of grinding, however, he couldn’t get past China's Lin Wu, who bagged HKD 3,095,000 (~INR 2.56 crore) for the top prize, as well as a HKD 100k buy-in to the ACOP Main Event and a Platinum Pass to the PokerStars Players Championship.
Agarwal has always set the bar high and he has been an inspiration to upcoming poker players from India. For this win, he pocketed HKD 1,900,000 (~INR 1.57 crore) for second place, almost tripling his previous best live cash. With this, he is now very close to that magical $1 million mark, for live poker cashes.
Main Event results (in HKD):
- Lin Wu - 3,095,000
- Aditya Agarwal - 1,900,000
- Jen Chen Chiu - 1,192,000
- Phanlert Sukonthachartnant - 933,000
- Alexandre Chieng - 675,500
- Maxi Lehmanski - 546,532
High Roller Event
After Bicknell became the first female to win the APPT High Roller, she tried to replicate that achievement and do even better on her debut Macau trip, but she eventually busted at 4th place in the second high roller event. The HKD 100k buy-in event created a total prizepool of over HKD 18 million, with Taiwan's James Chen taking home top honours.
He had to beat some of the best poker pros from around the world to win this title, including the likes of Bicknell, Dominik Nitsche and Stephen Chidwick, all of who reached the final table. Along with the top prize of HKD 4,021,000, Chen also wins a Platinum Pass worth $30,000 to next year's PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC).
These were the last two events we had to report from the 2018 APPT Macau, but a lot of other poker action is always taking place around the world, and you can get updates on all these events on GutshotMagazine.com!
